2009 NDBCC

The NDBCC09 were held over the Easter weekend in Melbourne, at the Altona Sports Centre.

Approximately 600 spectators attended the weekend games

The championship had 3 men’s teams - 2 from Melbourne and 1 from Brisbane. They were Melbourne City White, Melbourne City Maroon and the Cyclones from Brisbane, with each team playing the other teams twice in a round robin competition to decide the top two to play off in the final.

The women’s had 4 teams - 3 from Melbourne and again 1 from Brisbane. They were Jolimont Yellow, Jolimont Green, Victoria Magic and the Cyclones from Brisbane. The women played each other once in a round robin competition to decide the final ladder placing.

The games started on Friday morning and ended on Sunday afternoon with both the Women’s and Men’s finals.

The Women’s final was between the new team, Victoria Magic and Jolimont Yellow. The Victoria Magic team consisted mainly of the girls from the winning Sherbrooke Suns Team that competed in the NDBCC in Brisbane last year.

The Victoria Magic team was victorious against Jolimont Yellow with a winning score 78 to 45. The final score however did not reflect the closeness of most of the game, with the final margin only blowing out in the last quarter.

The Men’s final was played between Melbourne City White and Melbourne City Maroon. The game was closely fought with players from both teams being excluded from the game with five fouls. The final margin was only four points. The Melbourne White team was victorious with a winning score 45 to 41.

All games were played in a friendly but competitive manner, and all teams are to be congratulated on their performances.

The week-end was concluded with the Presentation Night held at Kooringal Golf Club, where the winning teams were presented with their medallions and the Most Valuable Players were announced and presented with their trophies.

DBV would like to acknowledge the valuable assistance of Basketball Victoria via Matt Dunstan and Vic Health who provided sponsorship and financial assistance to allow the weekend to proceed.

We would also like to thank all the volunteers, scorers and referees who gave up their Easter to help run the event and make it a hugely successful tournament. Without your assistance the event would not have been possible. Special thanks must also be given to the Altona Gator Basketball Club and the management of the Altona Sports Centre.
